STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

The President commends Rep. David E. Skaggs (D-CO) for his decision to support fast track legislation. Under pressure from those opposed to the legislation, Congressman Skaggs' decision shows great leadership. It will improve the prospect of securing the authority the President needs to expand opportunities for Colorado's workers, farmers, and businesses.

Support for fast track is the right decision for America's future: it is a choice to empower the United States to continue to lead the global economy, to open markets, to break down trade barriers, and to improve worker rights and environmental protection worldwide.

The President looks forward to working with Congressman Skaggs to secure the authority America needs to lead the world into the 21st Century.
