           PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES HIS INTENTION TO NOMINATE JOHN 
           GOGLIA TO THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD

The President today announced his intention to nominate John Goglia of Massachusetts to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Goglia is an Aviation Enforcement/Safety Specialist with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) for USAir in Boston, MA. He serves as IAMAW principal enforcement and safety representative for investigating, preparing and presenting defenses to enforcement actions and as team coordinator for aircraft accident investigations. In addition, he represents the IAMAW on the Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee and serves as the IAMAW's principal liaison with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration, and the U.S. Congress.

Goglia has more than 30 years experience as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance specialist. He began his career in 1964 as a Line Maintenance Mechanic and has since served as a Lead Line Maintenance Mechanic and Maintenance Inspector for USAir, where he has been responsible for managing a crew of professional aircraft maintenance mechanics performing all work on engines, avionics and airframes. He has been responsible for performance, quality control, maintenance record keeping and aircraft flight certification.

As a Member of the National Transportation Safety Board, Goglia will be responsible for promoting transportation safety by conducting independent accident investigations and by formulating safety improvement recommendations.
