PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DR. CALVIN V. FRENCH AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF

GOVERNORS FOR THE UNITED SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS INC.

Today, President Clinton announced his intent to appoint Calvin V. French as a member of the Board of Governors for the United Service Organizations, Inc.

Dr. Calvin V. French, of Washington, D.C., is the Pastor of the Massachusetts Avenue Church of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He has served in this capacity for the past 21 years, and previously served pastorates in Philadelphia, Boston, and Des Moines. Dr. French holds licensure with The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and has served as a board member of the National Institute of Health Fact Finding Board, the National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces and the Board of Graceland College.

Dr. French received a B.S. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. from Temple University and an Ed.D from Drake University. He also studied at Graceland College and Harvard University.

The United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) is a voluntary civilian organization created to serve a variety of needs of members of the armed forces and their families and to contribute to the maintenance of military morale. The USO World Board of Governors is given the responsibility for oversight of the staff's management of the affairs of the USO and its property. The USO is self-sustaining and receives no government funds. It is required by statute to make an annual financial report to Congress.
