PRESIDENT NAMES CLAUDE A. ALLEN AS MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF

THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

The President today announced his intent to nominate Claude A. Allen as member of the Board of Directors of the African Development Foundation.

Mr. Claude A. Allen, of Richmond, Virginia, is currently serving his third year as the Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Prior to his current position, Mr. Allen was Deputy Attorney General of the Civil Litigation Division in the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia. From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Allen was Counsel to the Attorney General. From 1991 to 1995, he was an associate at Baker & Botts, L.L.P. in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Allen received a J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law and his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The African Development Foundation is an independent, bi-partisan, non- profit, government corporation founded to provide self-help initiatives to poor populations of Africa. The Foundation also works to strengthen friendship and understanding between the people of Africa and the United States and supports local African activities designed to increase opportunities for community development.
