PRESIDENT CLINTON REAPPOINTS CAROL A. CARTWRIGHT AS A MEMBER OF

       THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE WOODROW WILSON INTERNATIONAL
                          CENTER FOR SCHOLARS

     The President today announced his intent to reappoint Carol A.

Cartwright to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Dr. Carol A. Cartwright, of Kent, Ohio, has served as President of Kent State University and as a tenured Professor of Education since 1991. Dr. Cartwright was the first woman president of an Ohio public university. From 1988-1991, she served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the University of California, Davis. Dr. Cartwright was Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Vice Provost of Pennsylvania State University from 1984 to 1988, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Pennsylvania State University System from 1981-1984. She is the author of numerous scholarly publications on education's Hall of Fame.

Dr. Cartwright received a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is established within the Smithsonian Institution, and administered by an independent Board of Trustees. The Center fosters scholarship and dialogue in international relations through the humanities and social sciences by bringing Fellows to Washington, encouraging discourse, and publishing the results of their activities.
