STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

President Clinton will travel to New York City September 6 - 8 to take part in the United Nations Millennium Summit, expected to be the largest gathering of heads of state and government ever held.

The President will address the Opening Plenary Session on September 6. During the Summit, the President will also conduct bilateral meetings with foreign leaders.

The theme of the Millennium Summit is "The Role of the United Nations in the 2lst Century." It will provide a forum for heads of state and government to address the challenges facing the UN in the new Millennium.
