THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Vice President
STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE
Today, I join with President Clinton in honoring the achievements of 15 individuals who helped advance the cause of freedom and improve the lives of people around the world. Each has been awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation's highest civilian honor. In bestowing this medal, we recognize the contributions these men and women have made to our national interest, the cause of peace and the advancement of human knowledge and culture.
The 15 recipients of the Medal of Freedom have distinguished themselves in the United States Senate, our nation's armed forces, the private sector, the civil rights and labor movements, the religious and academic communities, health care, and in the pursuit of justice. Through the conduct of their lives they inspire us all.
