PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JAMES H. ATKINS AS A MEMBER OF THE FEDERAL

RETIREMENT THRIFT INVESTMENT BOARD

The President yesterday nominated James H. Atkins to serve as a Member of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board.

Mr. James H. Atkins, of Little Rock, Arkansas, is currently serving as Chairman of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. Since 1997, Mr. Atkins has been Managing Director of Herrington, Inc. From 1985 to 1997, Mr. Atkins was Managing Director of Marsh & McLennan, Inc., and was President of Marsh & McLennan Arkansas, Inc. Previously, he was President of Atkins Insurance Corporation from 1977 to 1985. Mr. Atkins served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.

Mr. Atkins graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas.

The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board is responsible for managing the Thrift Savings Fund, a special tax-deferred savings fund established by the Federal Employees' Retirement System Act of 1986. Program administration for the Thrift Savings Fund is financed from the Fund.
