PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES CAROLYN BRACKETT TO THE ADVISORY COUNCIL

ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION

The President today announced his intent to appoint Carolyn Brackett as a member of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

Ms. Carolyn Brackett, of Nashville, Tennessee, is the Public Relations and Marketing Director for The Hermitage: Home of President Andrew Jackson. Additionally, she is a Heritage Tourism Consultant, providing regular consulting services to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a frequent presenter at preservation and tourism conferences on heritage tourism. Ms. Brackett's professional career has been largely devoted to historic tourism, including service as Statewide Projects Director for Tennessee 200, Executive Director for Historic Nashville, and State Coordinator, Heritage Tourism Program for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

Ms. Brackett received a B.S. in Historic Preservation from Middle Tennessee State University.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is an independent Federal agency which was established in 1966 through the Historic Preservation Act. The Council advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation matters, assesses the effectiveness of state, local, and private programs in carrying out the purposes of the Act and makes recommendations on how to improve the National Historic Preservation Program. In addition, the Council reviews federally licensed projects that affect properties listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Its members are also responsible for issuing the President's Historic Preservation Awards.
