THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
Statement of the Press Secretary
We are pleased the Senate has made progress by confirming 16 judges and 48 other persons nominated by President Clinton to senior government positions. Today's action will help promote the fair and prompt administration of justice and allow the government to serve the public interest more effectively.
We also know that its work must continue. Thirty-six judicial nominees and 204 other nominations to senior government positions have yet to receive hearings and/or votes. Some have waited years.
We hope today's votes represent a new beginning on the road toward full and fair consideration of all nominations currently pending before the Senate.
