PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES SANFORD I. WEILL AS A MEMBER TO THE PRESIDENT'S EXPORT COUNCIL President Clinton today announced his intent to appoint Sanford I.
Weill to the President's Export Council.
Mr. Sanford I. Weill, of New York, New York, is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup, Inc., a diversified global financial services company, created in 1998 by the merger of Citicorp and Travelers Group. Prior to the merger, Mr. Weill served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Travelers. Over the years, he has held several positions within corporate America, including President of the American Express Company, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Express' Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, and Director of AT&T Corporation, United Technology and DuPont Company.
The Council, established within the Department of Commerce, advises the President on matters related to export performance and develops policy guidance to promote export expansion. The Council also provides a forum for addressing significant trade issues affecting U.S. businesses and workers.
