PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ROGER W. KALLOCK DEPUTY UNDER SECRETARY OF

DEFENSE FOR LOGISTICS AND MATERIAL READINESS

The President announced today his intent to nominate Roger W. Kallock as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Material Readiness.

Mr. Roger W. Kallock, of West Chargrin Falls, Ohio, has been the principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) for policy and oversight of the military departments' logistic activities. He also has overseen policy for the Department of Defense in the specific functional areas of material management, maintenance, transportation, logistics reinvention, and information systems. Mr. Kallock chairs the Department of Defense senior logistics reform leadership group and leads the implementation of the widely supported plan -- "21st Century Logistics." Before joining the Department of Defense, he was a managing partner at Computer Sciences Corporation.

Mr. Kallock received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an M.A. in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.

The Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Material Readiness, established under the 1999 Defense Authorization Bill, is the principal advisor to the Secretary and Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics on logistics and material readiness in the Department of Defense and is the principal logistics official within the senior management of the Department of Defense.
