     PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES GLENN A. FINE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE
                         DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

     President Clinton announced today his intent to nominate Glenn A.

Fine to serve as Inspector General at the Department of Justice.

Mr. Glenn A. Fine, of Washington, D.C., currently serves as the Director of the Special Investigations and Review Unit in the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Justice. Before joining the Office of the Inspector General, he was an attorney specializing in labor law in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Bredhoff & Kaiser. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Fine served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Washington, D.C. United States Attorney's Office. In this capacity, he prosecuted over thirty-five criminal jury trials; handled grand jury investigations; and argued cases in the D.C. and U.S. Courts of Appeals.

Mr. Fine graduated from Harvard University magna cum laude with a B.A. degree. He earned his A.B. and M.A. degrees from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Mr. Fine also graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude with a J.D. degree.

The Inspector General Act created independent and objective units in each of the Departments to conduct and supervise audits and investigations concerning the programs and operations of the Department. The Inspector General, Department of Justice, is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the Office of the Inspector General, including providing leadership and assisting management to promote efficiency and effectiveness within the Department. In addition, the Inspector General enforces fraud and abuse laws and regulations within the Department, and identifies for prosecution any individual or groups of individuals involved in financial, operational, or criminal misconduct relating to the Department's operations or programs.
