          VICE PRESIDENT GORE ANNOUNCES EIGHT NEW INVESTMENTS
                      IN MISSISSIPPI DELTA REGION

Washington, DC--Vice President Gore held a town hall meeting with Delta community and business leaders to announce new efforts to spur economic growth and technological development within the Mississippi Delta region.

"In my home state of Tennessee, I've seen first-hand how poverty, high unemployment, and lack of opportunity affect the families of the Delta," Vice President Gore said. "That is why, as President Clinton and I have worked to turn our economy around, we have also worked to bring new jobs and hope to the Delta. We have to broaden and deepen our prosperity -- to make sure no one is left behind."

The investments are designed to increase tourism and expand small businesses and technology training programs in the region. They include:

As Chair of the President's Community Empowerment Board, Vice President Gore has been leading the Administration's efforts to bring economic opportunity to the Delta region. Today's speech reaffirmed this commitment and reinforced the bipartisan support for pending legislation to create a Delta Regional Authority.
