PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES LINDA B. RIEGLE AND LAURA TAYLOR SWAIN TO THE FEDERAL BENCH The President today nominated Linda B. Riegle to the U.S. District
Court for the District of Nevada and Laura Taylor Swain to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Linda B. Riegle, of Las Vegas, Nevada, has been a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Nevada since 1988. Prior to joining the federal bench, Riegle served as a partner (1983-1988), associate (1978-1983), and law clerk (1977-1978) for the law firm of Lionel Sawyer & Collins. She received her B.S. degree from Shepherd College in 1970, her M.A. degree from the State University of New York at Albany Graduate School of Public Affairs in 1972, and her J.D. degree from Albany Law School in 1977.
Laura Taylor Swain, of Brooklyn, New York, has been a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York since 1996. Prior to joining the federal bench, Swain practiced law with the firm of Debevoise & Plimpton from 1983 to 1996. She was also a member of the New York State Board of Law Examiners from 1986 to 1996. Swain received her A.B. degree, cum laude, from Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1979 and her J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1982. Following law school, Swain clerked for the Honorable Constance Baker Motley of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1982 to 1983.
