PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JOSE ANTONIO PEREZ AS UNITED STATES MARSHAL FOR
THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA
The President today announced his intent to nominate Jose Antonio "Tony" Perez to serve as United States Marshal for the Central District of California.
Mr. Perez, of Walnut, California, has served as Acting United States Marshal for the Central District of California since December, 1999. From 1994 to 1999, Mr. Perez served as Chief Deputy United States Marshal for the Central District of California. In addition, he served as Chief of the Enforcement Operations Division of the United States Marshals Service Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia from 1990 to 1994. From 1988 to 1990, Mr. Perez was the Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, also at Marshals Service Headquarters. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-1975.
The United States Marshal Service is responsible for providing support and protection for the Federal courts, apprehending Federal fugitives, operating the Federal Witness Security program, maintaining custody of and transporting Federal prisoners, and responding to emergency crisis situations.
