             PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JAMES DONALD WALSH AS
             U. S. AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF ARGENTINA

The President announced today his intent to nominate James Donald Walsh to be U. S. Ambassador to the Republic of Argentina.

Mr. Donald Walsh is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania and a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister Counselor. He is currently serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. Prior to his assignment in Spain, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Canada and Argentina. Mr. Walsh's other overseas assignments have included Kenya, Mexico, Belgium and Zimbabwe.

Prior to joining the State Department, Mr. Walsh was a contracting officer with the Department of the Navy. He received a B.A. in History from the University of Scranton and a Master's Degree from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
