                PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES MICHAEL G. KOZAK AS
                        U.S. AMBASSADOR TO BELARUS

     The President announced today his intent to nominate Michael G. 

Kozak to be U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus.

Mr. Michael G. Kozak, of Arlington, Virginia, is a Career Member of the Senior Executive Service. He has served as Principal Deputy Legal Adviser of the Department of State, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, and Chief of Mission, United States Interests Section, Havana, Cuba.

Mr. Kozak is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and of the University of California at Berkeley School of Law.
