           PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES JAY A. GARCIA-GREGORY
                          TO THE FEDERAL BENCH

     The President today nominated Jay A. Garcia-Gregory to the U.S.

District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

Jay A. Garcia-Gregory, of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, has been a partner at Fiddler, Gonzalez & Rodriguez since 1979, and previously served the firm as a senior associate (1977-1979) and as a litigation associate (1974-1977). Garcia-Gregory received his A.B. degree, magna cum laude, from Assumption College in 1966 and his L.L.B. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1972. Following law school, Garcia-Gregory worked as an Associate in Law at Columbia University School of Law from 1972 to 1973, and later clerked for Chief Judge Hiram R. Cancio of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico from 1973 to 1974.
