      PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES NANCY K. HATAMIYA AS A MEMBER OF THE 
              PARENTS ADVISORY COUNCIL ON YOUTH DRUG ABUSE

The President today announced his intent to appoint Nancy K. Hatamiya to serve as a member of the Parents Advisory Council on Youth Drug Abuse.

Ms. Nancy Hatamiya, of Davis, California, is currently a Senior Advisor at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP with over fifteen years of public sector experience. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Hatamiya was White House Liaison for the United States Office of Personnel Management from 1998 to 1999. She formerly worked as Senior Operations Officer for the Corporation for National Service, and as Chief of Staff for the President's Crime Prevention Council. Ms. Hatamiya previously served as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for California Assembly Member John Vasconcellos. She also served as Chief of Staff to San Mateo County Supervisor Anna Eshoo, now a member of Congress from 1983 to 1989.

Ms. Hatamiya attended Stanford University and was a Coro Foundation Fellow.

The Parents Advisory Council on Youth Drug Abuse was established in 1998 to advise the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) on drug prevention, education, and treatment. The Council will also assist the Deputy Director of ONDCP for Demand Reduction in the coordination of the demand reduction programs of the Federal Government and in the analysis and consideration of prevention and treatment alternatives. The Council may issue reports and recommendations as appropriate to the Director and subsequently the Congress.
