              PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JOHN M. MOTT TO THE
               SUPERIOR COURT OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

     The President today announced his intention to nominate John M.

Mott to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

John M. Mott, of the District of Columbia, currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Section of the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. He also manages the Worker Exploitation Task Force and serves as the Criminal Section's Professional Responsibility Officer. Mott received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1988. From 1988 until 1995, he served as a staff attorney with the D.C. Public Defender Service, representing both indigent defendants and juvenile respondents. In 1995, Mott became a Senior Trial Attorney and Acting Deputy Chief of the Criminal Section, Civil Rights Division, at the Department of Justice. Since joining the Department, Mott has represented the United States in federal district courts around the country. He also serves as the Youth Task Force Chair of the D. C. Coalition Against Drugs and Violence, is a member of the Executive Council of the Assembly of Petworth (a neighborhood association) and has been an assistant track coach for the Pioneer Athletic Association since 1996.
