PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES MARC GROSSMAN AS DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE FOREIGN

SERVICE

The President today announced his intent to nominate Marc Grossman as Director General of the Foreign Service.

Mr. Marc Grossman, of Arlington, Virginia, is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Career Minister. Mr. Grossman joined the Foreign Service March of 1976, his assignments have included Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Deputy Director of the Private Office of the Secretary General of NATO; Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State; Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs and Special Assistant to the Secretary and Executive Secretary of the Department of State. Mr. Grossman was sworn in as the Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey on November 21, 1994, and he was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs on August 5, 1997.

Mr. Grossman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics.

The Director General of the Foreign Service assists the Secretary of State by directing the formulation and implementation of personnel policies and programs and by issuing regulations governing the personnel administration of the Department of State and the Foreign Service.
