             PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES BONNIE J. CAMPBELL
                          TO THE FEDERAL BENCH

The President today nominated Bonnie J. Campbell to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Bonnie J. Campbell, of Des Moines, Iowa, has been the Director of the Violence Against Women Office of the U.S. Department of Justice since 1995. Prior to joining the Justice Department, Campbell was Iowa's Attorney General from 1991 to 1995. She also served as Counsel to Belin, Harris, Lamson & McCormick from 1989 to 1991, and was an associate with Wimer, Hudson, Flynn & Neugent from 1985 to 1989. Before entering law school, Campbell worked as a Field Office Coordinator for Senator John C. Culver from 1974 to 1981; as a caseworker for Senator Harold E. Hughes from 1969 to 1974; as a clerk for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Relations from 1967 to 1969; and as a clerk-stenographer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1965 to 1967. She received her B.A. degree from Drake University in 1982, and her J.D. degree from Drake University Law School in 1984.
