PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES GARY A. BARRON AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS FOR THE OVERSEAS PRIVATE INVESTMENT CORPORATION
The President today announced his intent to nominate Gary A. Barron to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
Mr. Gary A. Barron, of Florida, is currently President of Strategic Alliance Partners, a National Promotional Products Firm. Previously, Mr. Barron served as the Director of Corporate Affairs and Executive Assistant to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vitas Healthcare Corporation. He has also served as the Executive Vice President of Bowdoin Management Corporation, as well as the Special Assistant to the Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Mr. Barron received his B.A. from the School of Government and Public Administration at The American University.
The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) assists U.S. investors in making profitable investments in developing countries. The Corporation accomplishes this mission by offering assistance in identifying investment opportunities, providing insurance to protect investments, and by offering loans and loan guarantees to help finance projects. The Board of Directors meets four or five times a year in order to oversee the Corporation's underwriting and lending policies. The Corporation participates in projects totaling $7 billion annually, which have generated more than $24 billion in U.S. exports.
