               PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES TO GAIL SCHOETTLER 
                     FOR RANK OF AMBASSADOR AS HEAD
          OF THE U.S. DELEGATION TO THE WORLD RADIO CONFERENCE

     The President today announced his intent to appoint Gail S.

Schoettler for Rank of Ambassador as Head of the U.S. Delegation to the World Radio Conference.

Ms. Gail S. Schoettler, of Colorado, served as the State Lieutenant Governor from 1995 to 1999. She has also held positions in the State government as State Treasurer, member of the Board of Directors of the Public Employees Retirement Association and Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Personnel. Prior to her service for the State of Colorado, Ms. Schoettler organized several banks and was a general partner in several real estate investment partnerships. Since 1965, she has served as a General partner with the Avenales Land and Cattle Company.

Ms. Schoettler received her B.A. with honors from Stanford University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of California in Santa Barbara.
