PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES EARL ANTHONY WAYNE AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR
ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS AFFAIRS AT THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
The President today announced his intent to nominate Earl Anthony Wayne to be Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs at the Department of State.
Mr. Earl Anthony Wayne, of North Potomac, Maryland, is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister Counselor. He is currently serving as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs. Mr. Wayne previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission to the European Union. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Wayne was Director of Western European Affairs at the National Security Council. From 1989 to 1991, he served as Director for Regional Affairs, working for the U.S. Ambassador at Large for Counter-Terrorism. Mr. Wayne has also served as First Secretary at the U.S. Embassy in France, and as a Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat, Morocco.
Mr. Wayne has graduate degrees from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard (MPA), Princeton University (MA), and Stanford (MA). He has a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
In his capacity as Assistant Secretary for Economic and Business Affairs, Mr. Wayne will be responsible for formulating and implementing international economic policies aimed at protecting and advancing U.S. economic, political and security interests.
