STATEMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE ON ARMENIA

Washington, DC -- I was deeply saddened by today's shocking and brutal attack on the Armenian Parliament. I condemn this assault on Armenian democracy and extend my deep condolences to the families of the victims.

When I met with Prime Minister Sargsyan at the White House last month, he and I discussed the Armenian people's determination to build a strong, independent, and democratic state. I am certain that this attack will not weaken the Armenian people's commitment to this process and to democratic principles. At this difficult moment, I reaffirm my commitment to helping Armenia complete its democratic transition and to strengthening the U.S.-Armenian friendship.
