PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JAN A. HARTKE AS A MEMBER OF THE ENTERPRISE

FOR THE AMERICAS BOARD

The President today announced his intent to appoint Jan A. Hartke as a member of the Enterprise for the Americas Board.

Mr. Jan A. Hartke, of New Mexico, is currently the Executive Director of Global Environmental Alliance; a non-profit alliance of EarthVoice, Fauna and Flora International, and Counterpart International that is active in more than 100 countries. In addition, he was a trial lawyer, Chief Public Defender, and State Treasurer for the state of New Mexico. Mr. Hartke is the recipient of the Friends of the United Nations Environmental Program and the Earth Day International awards.

Mr. Hartke received a B.A. from Brown University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.

The Enterprise for the Americas Board seeks to improve the lives of Latin American and Caribbean children and adults through community-based conservation and sustainable use of the environment. The program uses funds in eligible countries for various local environmental projects and board members oversee the activities of grant-making boards within each participating country.
