COMMITTEE ON TRADE AND POLICY NEGOTIATIONS

The President today announced his intention to appoint Richard H. Brown to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee on Trade and Policy Negotiations (ACTPN).

Mr. Richard H. Brown, of Dallas, Texas, is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Electronic Data Systems, Inc. He has served as Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless PLC and as a member of the Board of Directors since July 1, 1996. He has served as Chairman of the Board of CompuServe Inc., and Vice Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors at the Chicago-based Ameritech Corp., where he led a corporate restructuring that organized the company by product rather than geography. Mr. Brown has been in the telecommunications industry for 28 years, holding a number of executive level posts, including President and Chief Executive Officer of Ameritech subsidiary Illinois Bell and Vice President of Operations of United Telecommunications, the forerunner of Sprint.

Mr. Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Ohio University.

The Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN) provides overall policy and advice on matters concerning objectives and bargaining positions before entering into a trade agreement and other matters arising in connection with U. S. Trade policy. ACTPN is broadly representative of key sectors and groups of the economy, particularly with respect to those groups which are affected by trade.
