PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ALAN P. LARSON AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF

DIRECTORS FOR THE OVERSEAS PRIVATE INVESTMENT CORPORATION

The President today announced the appointment of Alan Philip Larson as a member of the Board of Directors for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.

Ambassador Alan Philip Larson, of Reston, Iowa, currently serves as Acting Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs. Prior to his designation as Acting Under Secretary, Ambassador Larson served as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, a position he assumed in 1996. From 1993 until his confirmation for Assistant Secretary, he was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, as well as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Finance and Development. From 1990 to 1993, Ambassador Larson served as American Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. From 1987 to 1990, he was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs. Earlier in his career, Ambassador Larson held positions as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Energy and Resources Policy, Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of the Department's Energy Policy Office. Ambassador Larson has also served at the U.S. Embassies in Jamaica, Zaire, and Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Larson received a B.A. in 1971, a M.A. in 1977 and a Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Iowa.

This position of member of the Board of Directors for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation is responsible for providing foreign policy guidance to the Board.
