THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Vice President
STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT
Yom Kippur, 1999
Tipper and I extend our warmest greetings to Jewish families across America observing Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is a solemn and deeply personal holiday. For Jews this is a time for fasting and reflection -- a time to reaffirm bonds with God and repair and renew human relationships. As such, Yom Kippur and these high holy days serve as excellent examples for us all. They remind us of the importance of repentance and of our relationships with God. We should all challenge ourselves to renew our faith and remember the importance of forgiveness.
Best wishes for a blessed and meaningful Yom Kippur and a happy and healthy new year.
