STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

Tipper and I pray for the families who have so suddenly and sadly lost someone they love. This year too many hearts have been broken across America in this way. We have to reach the time when something like this is unthinkable in America.

We confront two tragedies this morning -- but they are very different. Hurricanes happen to us; but this shooting and others like it, are something people do to people.

This morning we say a prayer for these families, and for our country -- and we have to resolve to do better.
