STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

Today, President Clinton and I announced the creation of a new task force that will recommend ways to strengthen a key sector to our nation's economic strength and our country's fiscal prosperity.

This new interagency Manufacturing Task Force will explore the concrete steps we can take, together with labor and industry, to revitalize American manufacturing for the 21st Century.

I believe that in order for America to continue its economic success, we need a strong manufacturing sector at the heart of our economic strategy.

I want to thank Gene Sperling for taking a leadership role in this very important matter.
