STATEMENT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

Tipper and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Representative George Brown.

I had the pleasure of serving with him when I was a member of the House Science Committee. His leadership as the ranking Democrat was an asset for this Administration and this country.

He was my friend, a dedicated and talented legislator, and a strong advocate for science and for the families in his district in California. Our nation's many rapid advancements in science and technology are due in large part to the vision and leadership he provided our country.

I will miss him dearly.

Our thoughts and prayers are now with his wife, Martha, his family, and the people of California.
