              PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DAVID N. GREENLEE AS
              U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF PARAGUAY

     The President announced today his intent to nominate David N.

Greenlee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay.

Mr. David N. Greenlee, of Bethesda, Maryland, is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor. His previous positions have included Special Coordinator for Haiti, U.S. Delegate to the Israel-Lebanon Monitoring Group, and Deputy Chief of Mission in Spain, Chile and Bolivia. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia and served in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Greenlee graduated from Yale University and completed national security studies at the National War College. He speaks Spanish and French.
