For Immediate Release July 6, 1999
PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES AMY W. MEYER
AS A MEMBER OF THE PRESIDIO TRUST BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The President today announced his intention to appoint Amy W. Meyer

as a member of the Board of Directors of the Presidio Trust.

Ms. Amy W. Meyer, of San Francisco, California, is a former educator who has served on the Board of Directors since 1997. She previously was the Chair of People For The Presidio, which was formed in 1993 to work on the legislation creating the Presidio Trust. Ms. Meyer has also served, since 1971, as the Co-Chair of People For A Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Under two mayors, from 1976 to 1988, she served on the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission, and as vice-president of the Commission from 1979 to 1987. Ms. Meyer has served continuously on the GGNRA Advisory Commission since her appointment by the Secretary of Interior in 1974, and was elected Vice-Chair of the Commission in 1974. She received a B.A. from Oberlin College and holds an M.F.A. from California College of Arts & Crafts.

The Presidio, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, is the oldest continuously operated military post in the United States (dating from 1776), as well as a designated National Historic Landmark. In 1996, an act of Congress signed by the President created the Board of Directors of the Presidio Trust for the purpose of managing the resources of Presidio, in a manner consistent with sound principles of land use planning and management.
