              PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JERRY FLORENCE AS A 
              MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM SERVICES BOARD

The President today announced his intent to nominate Jerry Florence to serve as a member of the National Museum Services Board.

Mr. Jerry Florence, of San Diego, California, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Florence Brothers Throne Music, a gospel music company in Los Angeles, California. He formerly was senior vice president of Corporate Communications at Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company. Previously, Mr. Florence was President of the Nissan Foundation, the corporate giving arm of Nissan North America, Inc., a supporter of arts and cultural activities. From 1996-1998, he was Vice President for Communications and Strategic Development at Nissan Motors Corporation USA. He joined Nissan in 1993 as Vice President for Marketing. Mr. Florence currently serves on the boards of the National Museum of American History, the Los Angeles Educational Partnership, the San Diego Opera, and the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz. He has also served as vice chairman of the board of governors for the Urban League of Los Angeles and was chairman of the board for Food from the Hood. In addition, he served on the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) American Canvas project and Writercorps. Mr. Florence received a B.A. degree from Wichita State University.

The National Museum Services Board is an advisory body for the museum programs of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The board encourages and assists museums in their educational role.
