                PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DAVID H. KAEUPER
               AS U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF CONGO

The President announced today his intent to nominate David H. Kaeuper to be U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Congo.

Mr. David Kaeuper, from Richmond, Indiana, who has resided in Washington, DC since taking up his diplomatic career, is a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor. He entered the Foreign Service in l97l, and has served overseas in Nigeria, Gabon, Burundi, France, and the Philippines. Most recently Mr. Kaeuper served in Washington as Director of the Office of African Analysis in the Bureau of Intelligence Research.

Mr. Kaeuper is married to Brenda E. Bowman and has a son, Jolyon. He joined the Foreign Service after receiving a B.A. from DePauw University and an M.A from the University of Hawaii and further graduate studies at the University of Michigan.
