                PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES THOMASINA ROGERS 
                  AS CHAIR OF THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY 
                     AND HEALTH REVIEW COMMISSION

     The President today announced his intent to designate Thomasina

Rogers to serve as Chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Thomasina Rogers, of the District of Columbia, has served as a member of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission since October 1998. She was the Chair of the Administrative Conference of the U.S. from October 1994 until its dissolution at the end of 1995. She has served as the Legal Counsel and Deputy Legal Counsel to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where she was responsible for managing the development of the American with Disabilities Act employment regulations and policy. Additionally, she has worked in Presidential Personnel at the White House. Ms. Rogers is an officer of the board of directors of Children's National Medical Center, as well as the American Arbitration Association. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and the Columbia University School of Law.

The Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission is an independent Federal agency which decides contests of citations or penalties resulting from inspections of the work place required by the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). In 1970, Congress passed OSHA to ensure each employee safe working conditions and to reduce and prevent job injuries and illnesses. There are three members, who are appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate for terms of six years.
