STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
Presidential Delegation to Nigerian Inauguration
A presidential delegation, led by Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater and the Special Envoy to the President and the Secretary of State for the Promotion of Democracy in Africa Reverend Jesse Jackson, departs tomorrow for Nigeria to attend the inauguration of Nigeria's first democratically elected civilian President in 15 years, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Members of Congress, government officials and representatives of the private sector are participating in the delegation. This broad representation underscores the importance of Nigeria's democratic transition to the United States. It highlights the partnership we hope to strengthen and expand with all the people of Nigeria, as we work together to build a democratic, stable and prosperous future.
