STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE

I would like to express my profound gratitude to Robert Rubin for the critical and central role he has played as Secretary for the Department of the Treasury.

His intelligence, patience and willingness to work with everyone to expand opportunity for all Americans played a pivotal role in shaping the strength of our nation today. His strong leadership also helped stabilize the world economy. And for that I -- and the country -- owe him our thanks for his brilliant service.

I would also like to say a word about Larry Summers. Larry Summers has been, and will continue to be, a leading adviser for the President and me, as we chart our nation's economic future. Larry has the skill, insights and sensitivity to make a strong Secretary of the Treasury.
