STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma and Kansas during this difficult time -- especially those who lost loved ones as a result of last night's devastating tornadoes.

I know that last night's tornadoes -- which destroyed many homes and businesses across the two states -- have taken quite a toll on the people of Oklahoma and Kansas. But I want them to know that the Federal government will act -- and act quickly -- to help them start rebuilding their lives. Soon, several affected areas in both states will be declared disaster areas, opening the door to much needed federal aid.

Tipper and I ask the American people to keep the families of Oklahoma and Kansas in their prayers in the coming days.
