                 PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ARNOLD DONALD, 
             CAROLEE FRIEDLANDER, JAMES KELLY, JOHN SANDNER, 
          AND WILLIAM CROWELL TO THE PRESIDENT'S EXPORT COUNCIL

The President today announced the appointment of Arnold Donald, Carolee Friedlander, James Kelly and John Sandner as members of the President's Export Council, and his intention to appoint William Crowell as a member to the President's Export Council.

Arnold Donald, of St. Louis, Missouri, is presently Corporate Senior Vice President and President of Nutrition for the Monsanto Company. There, he serves on the Life Science Business Team, the Pharma Leadership team, the Ag Leadership team, the Information Technology Leadership team, and is vice-chair of Monsanto's Global team. A native of New Orleans, Mr. Donald received a B.A. degree from Carleton College, a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Carolee Friedlander, of Greenwich, Connecticut, is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Carolee Designs, Incorporated. Ms. Friedlander was President of the Committee of 200, the organization of preeminent businesswomen, and was a member of the Advisory Boards of the Educational Foundation of the Fashion Industries of the Fashion Institutes of Technology. Ms. Friedlander was educated at Bennington College.

James P. Kelly of Atlanta, Georgia, presently serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the United Parcel Service of America, Incorporated. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr. Kelly serves on the Board of Directors of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Board of Trustees for The Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the Dean's Advisory Committee of the Emory Business School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business for Rutgers University.

John F. Sandner of Chicago, Illinois, is currently Special Policy Advisor and former Chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of RB&H Financial Services. Mr. Sandner, who joined the CME in 1971, has served continuously on its Board of Directors since 1977. Among his many awards, he was named Man of the Year by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and President George Bush presented him with the Points of Light Award for Excellence in Corporate Community Service in 1996. Mr. Sandner received his B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University, and his J.D. from Univeristy of Notre Dame, where he earned a fellowship to the Law Science Academy.

William P. Crowell, of San Jose, California, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Cylink Corporation. Prior to assuming his position, Mr. Crowell served as Vice President of Atlantic Aerospace Electronics Corporation, and most recently, as Deputy Director of the National Security Agency. He received his B.A. from Louisiana State University and has attended programs at George Washington University and Harvard University.

The President's Export Council, established within the Department of Commerce, advises the President on matters related to export performance and to encourage export expansion. Viewed as the premier national advisory committee on international trade, it also provides a forum for resolving trade-related problems among business, industrial, agricultural, labor, and government sectors.
