PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES EVELYNE R. VILLINES AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE FOR PURCHASE FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE BLIND OR SEVERELY DISABLED
The President today announced his intent to appoint Evelyne R. Villines to serve as a member of the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled.
Ms. Evelyne R. Villines, of Des Moines, Iowa, is a leading national spokesperson for people with disabilities, and travels extensively throughout the country promoting programs to enhance the quality of life of disabled citizens. Ms. Villines joined the Committee in May 1994. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries and the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped. In addition, she is the former Director of the Client Assistance Program for the Easter Seal Society of Iowa, where she assisted persons with disabilities as they progressed through their rehabilitation program. In 1994, she was inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame, and in 1996 Ms. Villines received the Johanna Cooke Plaut Award for community leadership from the National Easter Seal Society.
The purpose of the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled is to administer the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program, under which supplies and services required by the Government are provided by nonprofit agencies employing persons who are blind or have other severe disabilities.
