THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
STATEMENT OF GREGORY CRAIG SPECIAL COUNSEL TO THE PRESIDENT January 27, 1999
The House Republican Managers have failed to make their case to remove the President, because, based on the facts, the law and the Constitution, there simply is no case.
Today's events make clear that the votes are not there to convict and remove the President from office. Any proceedings from this date forward only serve to delay the final resolution of this matter, and run counter to the best interests of the Congress, the presidency and the American people.
We remain convinced that the national interest is best served by ending this process in a way that is fair, speedy and bipartisan, so all of us can focus full time on the vital business of the United States.
