Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release December 29, 1998

STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Presidential Travel to Mexico and Central America

The President will travel to Mexico and Central America from February 10 to February 15, 1999. In Central America the President will tour areas devastated by Hurricane Mitch, view on-going restoration work to which the United States is contributing, and meet with the leaders of Central America to review ways in which the United States and the rest of the international community can contribute to the long-term recovery and transformation of their region.

In Mexico, the President will meet with President Zedillo on the broad spectrum of U.S.-Mexican cooperation. The two Presidents meet regularly, most recently last June in New York, in order to advance the broad economic, social, environmental, law enforcement, and political agenda between their two neighboring countries.
