PRESIDENT CLINTON RELEASES $102.2 MILLION OF EMERGENCY FUNDS FOR HURRICANE GEORGES AND OTHER TROPICAL STORM VICTIMS
Today, President Clinton released $102.2 million of emergency supplemental funding included for the Army Corps of Engineers in the Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 1999. These funds will allow the Corps of Engineers to carry out critical dredging activities and other repairs needed to maintain safe channels at dozens of navigation projects in the States of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, and in Puerto Rico that were damaged by Hurricane Georges and other tropical storms.
Of the total amount available, funds are distributed as follows:
Louisiana: $ 72.8 million
Puerto Rico: $ 11.0 million
Alabama: $ 10.8 million
Florida: $ 3.7 million
Mississippi: $ 3.5 million
Virgin Islands: $ .4 million
TOTAL: $102.2 million
