STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

State Visit of President Menem of Argentina

President Clinton has invited President Carlos Menem of Argentina for a State Visit on January 11, 1999, and President Menem has accepted. The State Visit will provide an opportunity for the two presidents to address a broad agenda, including efforts to encourage region-wide economic growth and increased trade and investment, the environment, combating international crime and terrorism, and our shared experience in international peacekeeping efforts.

The two leaders will also share views on world events. Argentina assumes a two-year term on the United Nations Security Council in January.
