THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Vice President

For Immediate Release December 2, 1998
                   STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE
ON RESIGNATION OF DNC CHAIRMAN STEVE GROSSMAN

Steve Grossman's decision to step down from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) today will be a loss for the Democratic Party.

As National Chairman, Grossman worked hard to reduce the Democratic Party's debt to a manageable size; traveled the country to campaign for Democratic candidates; and helped lead the Party to success in last month's election.

Steve was instrumental in putting forward the issues that Americans care about -- saving Social Security first, rebuilding and modernizing America's schools, protecting our environment, and enacting a patient's bill of rights.

Tipper and I have enjoyed the friendship of Steve and his wife, Barbara, for many years. We wish Steve, Barbara and their sons, Josh, Ben, and David, well. Steve's leadership, managerial skills, and enthusiasm will be sorely missed.
