           PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JAMES SCHIFF AS A MEMBER 
             OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE ARTS OF THE 
            JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

The President today announced his intent to appoint James H. Schiff as a member of the Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. James H. Schiff, of Dallas, Texas, is an independent businessman with interests in real estate, insurance, oil and gas production, and the hospitality industry. Currently, he is Vice President of Provident Communications, Inc., with offices in Washington, D.C. and Dallas. He has also been involved in the development, sales and property management of retail centers and as a principal in the start-up and development of several life and health insurance companies. Mr. Schiff also serves on the Boards of Directors of Kerens Oil Company and Dick's Last Resort, a Restaurant Group, both based in Dallas. He has been actively involved with the United Way, the YMCA, the YMCA Camp Grady Spruce, both as a board member and fundraiser. Mr. Schiff is also a supporter of the Dallas Theatre Center, the Dallas Civic Opera, and was a member of The 500, a Dallas arts fundraising group.

Mr. Schiff is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

The Advisory Committee on the Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts advises and consults with the Board of Trustees for the Center, and makes recommendations to the Board regarding existing and prospective cultural activities to be featured at the center. In addition, the members of the Committee assist in the Center's fundraising efforts and act as liaisons to performance groups and performing arts centers throughout the nation.
